Through reading a series of articles, I learned that there are a few instruments that a child can play starting at very young age. If you’ve been reading the Premier Performing Arts Studio School of Music’s blog pages, you might be able to guess what classes are suitable for young children. If you guessed that piano and voice are great lessons for children, you are correct! However, did you know that the violin is also on that list? That’s right! The violin is considered to be another great kid-friendly instrument.
Why is the violin a great instrument for kids you may ask? Over fifty years ago, a man named Shinichi Suzuki created a music program that teaches young children how to play instruments, such as violin and piano, which are easy for children as young as the age of two to learn! At Premier Performing Arts Studio we have teachers who are trained in the Suzuki method that can teach your child to play.
The Suzuki method uses a combination of listening activities, repetition, encouragement, and repertoire that is custom-made for children. Parent involvement is strongly encouraged along with the Suzuki method, whether they have experience or not, this method helps parents to become “Home Teachers” to help teach their children proper technique at home. Therefore, parents get the opportunity to learn alongside their child. Studies show that children who have a great amount of parental involvement in their music studies when they’re younger have a higher percent of continuing to pursue their instrument beyond high school, some even to the professional level. Just ask anyone who used to know how to play an instrument years ago, most of them would probably say, “I wish my mom wouldn’t have let me quit!” Help your child achieve their full musical potential!
