From time to time adults and children alike can experience difficulty staying focused and motivated. This can be due to events in your personal life or lack of interest in the subject of attention as well other various reasons. If your child is experiencing a rough patch in his or her music lessons, don’t panic! This is completely normal. Everything worth having is worth earning through hard work and dedication.
Everybody has personal preferences. Some of us may not like vegetables but that doesn’t mean that they are not good for us or that we don’t need to eat them. If your child seems uninterested in a certain piece that they are learning it is pivotal for parents to show them how important is to embrace well rounded “musical diet”. After all you are their biggest hero. Just as you wouldn’t you allow your little one to eat only what they like (CANDY! CANDY! CANDY!) and you would steer them in a better direction you can do this with their music homework just as easily. You can even apply the same analogies you would use to avoid cavities. They more they work at this piece the quicker they will gain the necessary knowledge and the sooner they will be on their way to developing their own style and picking out their own pieces!
If you are worried the problem is not inlaid in one piece or song, talk to your child. Kids change their minds at the snap of a finger, that’s just a part of growing and changing. Maybe it’s time to consider a different instrument.
