The benefits a student gets from performing in a recital

The student takes a bow as the audience claps and smiles, impressed by the performance they just saw. Recital time is right around the corner, and here at Omaha School of Music and Dance we can feel the excitement of both the students and teachers. From an instrument, to voice, to dance the students are beginning to work hard to prepare for their performance. But why participate in a recital? Are there any known benefits to such a performance?

Types of Recitals

Here at Omaha School of Music and Dance we put on two types of recitals, music and dance. Our music recitals allow the students learning both vocal skills and an instrument to show what they have been learning. Our dance recitals host a variety of ages and types of dance to show off all their hard work. The music and dance recitals are held on separate occasions to make sure everyone has an opportunity to display their talent.

Benefits of a Recital

At first, the thought of a recital might cause some nerves and uneasiness, yet having something to work towards can have great benefits. The recital becomes a goal that requires additional focus and practicing. The sense of urgency to make your performance great becomes a huge motivator.

Starting to perform at a young age can help the student gain valuable experience. It’s not always easy for someone to perform in front of an audience, but the more practice they get at it, the easier it will become. Mistakes are bound to happen, but as students learn how to work through those mistakes it will help them tremendously with future experience.

During a recital there is typically a range of skill levels, from beginner to advanced. When the less experienced students are able to watch the more advanced students it helps them create new goals they can work towards. They can see the opportunities they have available to them in their music and dance careers.

The performance is complete and the fears start to diminish. Joy overcomes them as a smile begins to appear on their face. They find their friends and family in the audience and see how proud they are of them. This feeling of pride and accomplishment is a key motivator to help them continue on this journey. Their self-esteem is also given a boost after doing something so amazing!

We encourage all students to participate in this exciting event! We have seen great results from students to take the leap and join in on the fun. If you have any questions regarding this please give our office a call at 402-515-9639 or visit our Contact Page.
