Is this true? Do I really need a guitar teacher if I want to learn guitar?
The fact is that you really do need a teacher in order to be a better player, and an all-around better musician. Often, you see celebrities and famous musicians and assume they taught themselves. However, most musicians have had some form of formal training on their instrument, and are most likely still taking lessons. Did you know that Denzel Washington still takes acting classes? He has won over two-dozen awards for his acting abilities, yet he still takes lessons! Therefore, no matter how talented or how much experience you’ve had with playing guitar on your own so far, you can still benefit from taking lessons.
The biggest reason as to why people don’t take lessons is because they don’t see how much having a teacher would actually help them to improve their skills. But think about it this way, even professional, Olympian athletes need a coach to help them improve their skills. No matter how experienced you may be, you will benefit from a guitar teacher. Guitar teachers have had professional training at the college level or even beyond in most cases, so they are more than able to help you achieve your musical goals, whether you’re looking to start playing guitar, or improve your current skills.
