We offer a wide variety of drum kit lessons or percussion lessons. Most of our students learn on a drum kit. We have both male and female students and typically do not start drum lessons before the age 8 as students need to be able to reach both the pedal and the cymbals. At the Omaha School of Music and Dance, you have the opportunity to choose from an acoustic or electric drum kit. Many parents enjoy the benefits of an electric drum kit when a student practices at home. These electric sets have the ability to have the volume turned down, or be used with headphones!
Our drum lessons stress proper technique so students become good drummers quickly. Our drum instructors have university or college training and are active performers. Private drum lessons are available in 30 minute, 45 minute, and 1 hour lengths. Snare lessons and drum kits can often be challenging to master the coordination for younger students. Due to this reason, they are only offered as private lessons. Students that are too young to begin drum lessons are recommended to start in our program for younger kids, Music FunTime. The children’s program that we offer stresses the learning of different note values, music notations and symbols as well as mastering rhythms. All of which are crucial skills when it comes to learning percussion.
Interesting Drums Fact: Although drum music consists of merely rhythms on a page, drums are tunable. They can be tuned to produce a specific sound.
