Welcome to week two of new blog series featuring questionnaires about our lovely staff! This week we are shining the light on our band and piano instructor, Mr. Dick Keiser.
What instruments do you in instruct and play?
Piano, clarinet, saxophone, tuba, trombone, trumpet and voice.
What are your hobbies outside of teaching music?
Farming! I grew up as a farm kid and when my father passed away, my son and I took over the farming he had been doing. As well as adding more ground. I also enjoy golfing! Although, strangely, I don’t seem to be able to find the time now that I am retired.
Why did you decide to become a music teacher?
To share my joy of music, and to impart the lessons in life that the dedication to learning an instrument can bring.
Who is the person you admire the most and why?
Typically, it’s my parents. Raising eight kids on a small farming operation. But, currently my wife comes to mind. Dealing with a change of jobs as well as relocating both parents from exoctic homes in Phoenix and Florida to here in Omaha
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
I think the draw of the Caribbean and Mexican influenced music draws me most to most anywhere in Mexico or the Caribbean islands. We’ve traveled there a lot but are always anxious to return trying new areas and new islands.
What is your favorite song?
Stars and Stripes Forever by John Philip Sousa…played by one of our U.S. service bands.
What is the one thing you couldn’t live without?
Without a doubt, my family.
Next week we will be featuring a blog on our Viola, Violin, and Voice instructor, Mattia Tucksen. Who is just as talented as he is kind.
