Five Reasons to Enroll in Guitar Lessons vs Teaching Yourself

The guitar is one of the most fun and popular instruments to learn to play. As such, many people teach themselves to play the guitar. We think this is awesome! However, our blog today will highlight 5 reasons why taking private guitar lessons with a teacher can be a significant benefit.

Progress Faster

Students progress faster with a teacher! Many of our students have stated that with a quality teacher they progressed much more quickly than teaching themselves at home. The reasons for this vary but taking a one-on-one lesson with a teacher each week will be your best tool in progressing quickly. For example, the teacher will be there to teach you, support you, answer your questions, and so much more. We will go into each of these below, but the first benefit of private guitar lessons is progress.

Expectations

As discussed above, a teacher aids in your progress. I think the main reason for this is because the teacher sets expectations for you. Each week you will meet together and each week you will practice at home the things you learned in preparation for the following week’s lesson. While many people are very self-motivated and can set their own expectations, many people also perform better if someone is holding them accountable for their learning and practice.

Someone to play with

Sharing music with someone is fun! Isn’t that what music is all about? By taking lessons with a teacher you have a built-in jam partner that you can share music with each week. Lessons will be played together, and we strive to have the best teachers around. They are skilled in teaching but also relatable and fun. We hope you look forward to your lesson each week and will come ready to jam out with our guitar teachers.

Someone to answer questions immediately

There are a plethora of youtube guitar lessons available. However, to access these videos you must stop playing, pull out your phone, play down your guitar, search for the answer, and sort through the multitude on search results to find your answer. With access to a teacher right there in front of you, you will be able to get real-time answers to any questions you may have without disrupting the lesson. The answers will be specific to your needs and be given in context. This will be a huge asset in your progression.

Learn technique, theory, fix bad habits, etc.

The last benefit we will discuss is the wide variety of things your guitar lesson will include. Obviously you will learn how to hold the guitar, how to play the notes, how to play a song. However, you will also learn the correct technique, music theory, and how to fix any bad habits that may pop up. A teacher will be able to tailor the lesson to your specific needs. This is a huge benefit compared to self taught lessons.

While we encourage learning music in all situations, we firmly believe that a private guitar music lesson will be a significant benefit to you and your guitar endeavors. Our professional teachers will help you progress quickly and set expectations. They will also make your lesson fun and tailor your lesson to your specific needs.
