Children’s Hip Hop Dance Classes ~ Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of dance is hip-hop?

Hip-Hop dance is one of the most popular styles of dancing and can be performed by dancers of all ages. Movements in Hip-Hop dance are less fluid than other dance styles and it takes a lot of coordination to learn and master this style of dance. One thing that separates Hip-Hop dance from other forms of dance is that Hip-Hop is often more improvisational which allows for more creativity and freedom with movements. Hip-Hop is known for its cool moves and quick spins and is widely known for being featured in popular mainstream music videos and movies.

Are your classes for beginners?

Absolutely! We call them classes because that’s the place where you learn. If everybody were already skilled, we’d call them rehearsals. We want everyone to feel like they can come take class no matter what their experience or skill level and we’ve worked hard to make sure our classes meet the needs of those who are just starting out.

What should I wear/bring to class?

Below is our required dancewear for hip-hop classes:

-T-shirt

-Black track pants or jazz pants

-Black jazz shoes or new indoor cross-trainers (cross trainers cannot be worn outdoors) – shoes must only be worn on the dance floors

We also provide drinking fountains, restrooms for changing, and a storage area for your outdoor shoes/clothes.

My student has danced a lot in the past. Will your classes be too easy for me?

While the majority of our students are beginners, we do have some pros hiding out here and there. We teach our choreography with options for beginners and advanced dancers. In case you’re still not convinced, just know that we have many levels of dance classes available. If you’re finding a hip-hop dance class is too easy, simply ask for a switch and we can move you to a more advanced option!

Can I try a class before registering?

Yes! We offer either a trial class or a trial month! However, please note that taking one class can be hard to see whether or not the class is for you. If you’re new to dance, you are likely to be somewhat frustrated during your first class as your mind and body attempt to form a new relationship. However, people always seem to advance very quickly and after only a few classes they have a VERY different perspective than they had initially.

Don’t think of this as a dance class, think of it as a dance course! What we do works best as a package, not a one-time experience. Nonetheless, we offer a trial class, trial month, or registration with only a 30-day cancellation notice!

Will there be a recital?

Of course! We offer a recital each year in the spring for all dance classes. While recitals are not required, we highly promote them. It is a wonderful feeling to see your student work hard towards a goal and perform what they’ve learned in front of an audience with the encourage of our teachers, staff, friends, and of course, family!
